Regardless of your sport of choice, everyone can find a way to excel at their sport. It is first and foremost important to define for yourself, what is winning? Everyone plays sports to compete and that competition is to be better than your opponent or the opposing team. The reference made here is to define what your current and ultimate goals are. At times, on our road to being victorious, we are not always in first place. It is important to define for yourself and succeed on your road to victory.
Plainly stated, you must set goals if you intend to be a winner. The goals you set must be reasonable and attainable, and push you beyond your comfort. Maybe the teams you play in the regular season aren’t comparable to your team, but without goals your team will never be ready for the teams you will meet in the playoffs. Sports is often about competition with the team that is presently facing off with you today. That is truly, one of the joys of sports to live in the moment and focus all of your power and awareness. Winning teams see the now and beyond that. Every match is also simultaneously a training session for the next event, the next team that you will meet.
It is also important to look at the long term. When starting out in a sport maybe you are not the best player but you want to find the road to victory. The long sighted player will also look at each match as a training session. An opportunity to practice skills and develop. As we meet other teams we can gauge our physical stamina. We can tell, the importance of working out and increasing our staying power. Losing a game, is not loosing the season. From lost matches can come the development of skills that lead to later victories.
