Love sports so much you often play them in your sleep? Whether your love is football, basketball, the billiard game, pool, or some other sport, you will notice certain characteristics in the athletes that play them; characteristics that can be applied to your own life.
Start with:
- A positive attitude. A positive attitude is looked on by many athletes as being even more important than the learned skill. Miracles occur when a positive attitude is forthcoming; especially when defeat is more than likely assured.
- Strength. Learning from books does you little if you don’t practice what someone else has preached. For example, if you want to be a body builder, you don’t study the best books on the subject and then sit on the couch with your latest dish of bonbons. You’re up and going, you’re doing what you have learned.
- Appreciation. More than likely, someone is going to come out of the woodwork to help you with your interest. Let them assist you. There’s nothing worse than someone who believes they know it all.
- Team spirit. It isn’t all about you even if you’re playing the game of billiards and “you” are on your “own” team. Be the sort of player that applauds others and that can take a compliment without letting it go to their head.
- Honesty. Lack of honesty is quickly discovered when the pros forget, don’t let this be the case with you.
- Playfulness. Everything is not all seriousness, yes, even in the game of sports. Have fun, cheer for the underdog, and keep the “booing” inside your head. Be the sort of player that everyone thinks positively about.
Playing a sport, especially if you’re new at it, is not an easy feat, but it is definitely worth doing. Be the sort of player that everyone wants on their team; someone with the strength to know their own worth as well as the worth of those playing alongside them.
